I’VE BEEN DROWNED OUT BY THE RAIN “Floatzel, Water Pulse!”
Lean muscles tensed under the Pokémon’s sleek coat and a frown creased its features as it prepared the attack –a tiny sphere of water formed between its fingers and soon enough it fired the attack with an ease born out of experience. Its opponent –a vibrant and robust Manectric– barely managed to leap out of the way as the attack crashed against the floor with the deafening sound of cement cracking against the force behind the water-based attack. Its trainer, although excited and full of energy missed his mark by only a fraction of a second crying out “Dodgeit!” without taking a breath just as the Manectric leaped out of the way. However, the Discharge Pokémon was far from graceful –it landed heavily on its front paws –slightly stumbling to a stand and quickly snapping back to attention. A low growl issued from its throat and electricity crackled at the edges of its erect fur. It was made for speed but the trainer had obviously focused more on power –not grace and the Manectric nearly paid for it –but a dodge was a dodge nonetheless and no matter how messy it continued to serve its purpose.
The Manectric’s trainer was clearly confident about his abilities in the battle –a cocky grin lit his eyes and he carried himself in the tensed/relaxed sort of way of someone that believed it wouldn’t do to show how excited they were, but he wasn’t a master of acting and anyone with eyes could see the tension behind the pose –the way his fists clenched and he seemed to restrain himself to yell out whatever passed through his mind. He had greasy dark brown hair that had been sleeked back with only the force of his fingers making the hair stick out at odd angles, his face was round and gold freckles decorated his cheeks, a small forehead and large eyes seemed to take up the rest of his face –a murky brown in coloring, like the type one would expect to see in swamps –his mouth was full of crooked yet white teeth which was probably a contrast with what much people expected –maybe bracers or perfectly straight teeth was more his style. The clothing was simple –a yellow t-shirt with a brand logo stamped on the front, a light green jacket made out of that smooth fabric used in water-proof clothing and knee-length khaki pants matched with a pair of dirty white sneakers.
The Floatzel’s trainer was a different matter entirely –the fellow looked like he just came straight out of a designer store and was simply here for some advertising. His pose was full of the crackling tension but he barely had a hair out of place which seemed to be a bleached blond color but could’ve as well been natural, his face was smooth and all sharp edges –a sharp nose, a sharp jaw bone, sharp eyes. He wore and unbuttoned dress-shirt over a simple blue shirt, jeans and dress shoes, but of course not in the shabby style one would expect of such clothing –it looked as if it either had been taken straight out of the store or the dry cleaners and the fabric looked expensive. Everything about him was light in color –gray eyes, pale skin and pale clothes. But perhaps his most notable feature was his companion –a tiny bright red Skitty leaped excitedly by his side, jumping and darting left and right but always just outside the arena itself, just as the Floatzel darted out of the way from the Manectric’s reach the Skitty gave an excited leap backwards, landing gracefully on its four legs and mewing loudly and moving its tail. It leaped again to nip at its trainer’s fingers and he only looked briefly down at the excited Pokémon before turning his attention back to the battle.
“QuickAttackthenSpark!” howled Tensed/Relaxed, unnecessarily jabbing his finger in the direction the Floatzel lay down and all fours and fur bristling –its teeth were bared together in a snarl.
The Manectric charged full-speed ahead at the Floatzel, the Sea Weasel’s muscles bunched underneath it and just at the last second it leaped clean out of the way. “Water Gun!” yelled its trainer and in one smooth move the Floatzel turned to face the Manectric mid-leap and aimed the attack quite well for having just turned around –the effect was that it didn’t exactly hit directly but it was enough to knock the Manectric off its feet and at the same time the force behind the attack propelled the Floatzel backwards giving it even more terrain between the two opponents.
“That’s a poor technique –just charging recklessly ahead,” Ruby pondered out loud, frowning slightly as his gaze landed on the TV displayed on the window of one of the stores. He was simply passing through his hometown, wandering around the place and waking up memories he thought long dead –just being here made him feel somewhat cheerier and although, by now, he had grown to be quite fond of Hoenn as well it was still a relief to be able to go someplace else for a change. In this trip he had planned on doing nothing more than reminiscence a while which would explain why he was simply walking through town and of course why he had let his attention wander to the TV. Truthfully he had no idea what the battle was about –it could’ve been the Sexy Pokémon World Cup for all he cared but it had not stopped him from inspecting the battle. Of course it wasn’t all that interesting –the Manectric had the type advantage, of course, but the trainer didn’t seem to like or want to think outside the box. Now if it was him one good technique would be to make sure the arena was completely wet –clearly the Floatzel’s speed was superior than the Manectric’s so if he concentrated on getting the arena wet his chances were doubled when he struck –the water could easily conduct the electricity were the Floatzel lay and if it had gotten its paws wet it was likely to receive the shock of its life –even if the attack wasn’t direct. It would also help in the use of Thunder Wave –the water would surely conduct the paralyzing shock towards the Floatzal and the Manectric would have a better chance of landing the attack.
Besides him Andre grunted in agreement. The Lucario was, of course, out of his Poke ball and accompanying Ruby in his exploring of the city. A Black Belt was firmly tied around the Lucario’s right arm –something copied off the way Alex, his Sceptile, carried his Focus Sash. In all truth that was the best thing to do with the item, it had its uses, of course, but tying it around one’s head could bother vision and it gave the opponent extra leverage to yank them back towards it by use of the Black Belt, the same went with the waist so Ruby had engineered a way to firmly tie such things to their arms where they would do more good –the way they were wrapped around would make it so the item didn’t come loose in battle and it provided some support from attacks that could harm the bone underneath the arm and scratches as well –the item could still break but at least it wasn’t in a spot where it could prove to be a disadvantage to him or his team.
But they had to keep going –he reminded himself and the ghost of a smile edged his lips. The Lucario was enthralled by the battle going on in the screen though he suspected it already knew what the results could be. “Come on,” he said gently “much more to see.” Andre grunted and walked forward distractedly barely noticing how he bumped against Ruby. If this was anyone else the person would’ve simply staggered some and straightened themselves and continued on their merry way. But this was Ruby and as it was he found the ground steadily approaching his face. His last thought as he stumbled like a drunkard was I should go get one of those fancy balance bracelets, I heard they actually work. The next second he had stumbled head-first into the cool cement with a loud smack that made his school reverberate with the after-effects.
Ouch.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sometimes it felt like Leaf was wandering everywhere except for her home region, Kanto. It wasn't that she disliked her home region, oh no, on the contrary. She quite adored it, especially her hometown, Pallet Town. There was always something new to do in Kanto. The only thing was, Leaf needed something even newer to do, being the easily bored, excitable person that she was. And so she had picked Johto; it was easily accesible, and fun. Not to mention all the landmarks and rare pokemon it had. Thinking about pokemon made the dark-haired girl's thoughts turn to her own pokemon, which reminded her of the pokemon currently by her side. Absent-mindedly, she turned her head up to look at Arrow and make sure he was okay.Seeing him flying high in the sky still gave her a shock. It was hard to believe that he had originally just been a bunch of bones and fossils, before the lab had managed to revive him. Arrow was an Aerodactyl, an ancient dinasaur pokemon who was still, after all these many months, constantly surprised by the world around him. Normally, this wouldn't have been a problem for Leaf; she took everything in life in stride and dealt with it accordingly. But the Aerodactyl's method of dealing wasn't nearly as serene as his trainer's. Whenever he saw something he viewed as strange, which was nearly all the time, he attacked it. Leaf was still trying to transition him to accept the future, and had been slowly improving, but still; nothing was built in a day. The only reason Leaf was letting him fly around freely right now was because they were in a forest, not a town. However, she knew they would be approaching one soon.
Sure enough, Leaf soon saw the town. Goldenrod, was it called? She couldn't remember, but now would be a good time to try and introduce Arrow to some more advanced things. She gave a clear, sharp whistle, which Arrow knew was his cue to come to her. Sure enough, the Aerodactyl soon came floating down out of the sky, to teeter to a landing position in front of Leaf. She winced as his wings blew a breeze her way. She didn't like flying pokemon much. The only reason she had Arrow under her wing (no pun intended) was because she couldn't have exactly left him with the scientists! It had been a good decision on her part though, despite the, ahem, difficulties. He was a deadly fighter, but very sweet with her. Giving him a quick scratch, she stopped to look him in the eye so he would understand the gravity of the situation. "Okay, we're going to go in to a town now," she told him, dark green eyes unusually serious (it wouldn't last). "It's going to be culturally shocking for you. No attacking people, got it?" she paused a moment longer just to make sure that the impression hadn't passed over him before continuing on. Perhaps it would have been wiser to put him back in his pokeball, but he had to get used to things sooner or later, preferably sooner.
Continuing on, Arrow flapping a bit above her, Leaf walked in to the large city. Ah, civilization; the loud noises of people wandering about in and out of shops and the streets, the bells clanging as people walked in to stores, the tvs in the windows. Leaf was used to it. Arrow was not. She saw him out of the corner of her. His eyes were nervously darting around, and his predator's sharp teeth were bared. Many people passing by paused to look at him with a slight frown. Of course, none of them would have seen an Aerodactyl before, unless it was in a museum exhibit or an old book. Hopefully, the pokemon wouldn't snap. She had a feeling that that would not be well received by the people of this city.
Looking ahead, Leaf saw a boy up ahead, perhaps a bit younger than her, with dark hair and a hat. She liked his hat, though she still thought hers was cooler. There was also a pokemon beside him that she didn't recognize, and was too lazy to take out her pokedex to check. It would probably dawn on her soon. Goodness, her recognizing skills were getting rusty. She'd have to check her pokedex later. While Leaf was pondering this, movement caught her attention. In fact, that movement was the boy falling to the ground, and the cement making contact with his face. Ouch. Leaf winced in sympathy, before tensing and turning to look at Arrow, who looked ready to lunge. Leaf shot him a firm glare. There was no way she was allowing one of her pokemon to attack a fallen man. "No," she told him, before walking over to the boy and leaning over him. "Hey, buddy, you okay?" YOUR ONLY DRUG WILL LET YOU DOWN. Ow, ow, ow, ow.
For a moment Ruby found himself unable to create a coherent thought, his skull felt, well, like it had just smacked against the solid surface of the cement sidewalk and the first coherent thought he actually did form sounded like a string of profanities that would have surely upset his mother and as silly as the action was (considering that the last time he checked she was nowhere near Goldenrod or had any plans to go there) he clamped his jaws shut and simply let the waves of pain pass. Finally, after a few seconds of laying still on the floor he mustered enough will and strength to haul himself to an awkward stand, but he only managed to move a hand underneath his chest to provide support when a wave of vertigo hit him with enough force to make him give up the task. A wordless groan must have escaped his throat when the dizziness hit him because he heard a familiar guttural growl of concern from Andre’s part, which had not made an effort to help Ruby to his feet because he knew his trainer enough to understand that he would have preferred to pick himself up.
Suddenly and quite unexpectedly the Lucario tensed besides him, its forepaws curled into fists and in one swift movement it had moved in front of Ruby, producing a low growl deep in its chest to warn back whatever was coming. All dizziness and pain forgotten Ruby managed to haul himself to an awkward sitting position on the pavement, his line of vision spinning like a top as he did so but he managed to steady himself eventually. His eyes focused to whatever Andre was looking at but he only saw… a girl. Nothing threatening about her, he could only think. She had large hazel eyes, long hair several shades darker than her eyes and a white hat of some kind resting on her head. The rest of her outfit wasn’t anything extravagant a sleeveless shirt, skirt and sneakers, a bag slung over her shoulders and… that was it. She wasn’t holding a gun against him or anything. However, he knew better than to question the sanity of his Pokemon, since as far as he was concerned they weren’t the type to growl warnings unless there was something to growl a warning at and Andre would hardly react this way if there wasn’t any dang-
Oh, shi-
No one could really blame Ruby for the way his eyes widened as he caught sight of the Aerodactyl –he wasn’t even completely sure what Pokémon it was but its saw-like fangs and the lethal glint in his eyes told him more than enough of what he needed to know and he was pretty sure he wasn’t mistaken the hungry look in its eye for anything else other than it was. He only had a brief moment were he thought See, I knew Andre wasn’t insane before he slowly rose to a stand, eyeing the purple Pokémon warily. He was sure that if the dragon-like Pokémon attacked Andre would be quick to react and he only had a brief moment to thank his good sense –he always tried to enforce a bit of independent thinking on his Pokémon so that he didn’t have to bark out “dodge it!” when they clearly knew that they shouldn’t allow their opponent to smack a blow on them, because he was sure his mind was much too muddled after the fall to be able to think of a coherent command that would get them out of this type of situation.
"Hey, buddy, you okay?"
Ruby had enough sense to not jump at the suddenness of the words but his eyes did flick just as suddenly towards the girl and then he frowned. Various possible answers flashed across his mind most of which weren’t very nice, in fact they were outright rude and the other of them would’ve been neutral answers that would have probably satisfied her and sent her on her way. In the end, however, he settled for the sarcastic: “Oh yes, I’ll surely need a hospital after this fall,” he arched a brow as if to ask what was the point of her question when he was sure that at best he’d have a round red spot on his forehead and cheek where the cement had come in contact with his head “Because tripping is completely lethal,” he added quite unhelpfully to his case. But hey, he wasn’t the one with the stupid questions. Heaven save him from the stupid questions, he’d rather have a go at the hungry-looking Pokémon armed with only a wooden baseball bat and the clothes on his back.
As if the thought had suddenly reminded him of the Pokémon’s existence his eyes flicked back to its leathery hide, it was big enough to carry both him and Andre away in its claws, he figured and the forked tail probably added to its sense of balance in flight but he wouldn’t doubt that it was also heavy and muscle-laden much like Damen’s own tail and it could easily be used to swat away intruders, but obviously its biggest asset where its fangs –or maybe he just couldn’t help but imagining all the painful bites one could endure under the force of them. Yep, definitely the painful image of them was enough to draw anyone’s attention towards them. But the girl, its trainer, he figured, didn’t look like the type that would tell her Pokémon to eat others alive, at least, not in a crowded place like this city so he figured he was safe enough from its fangs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Standing in front of the boy, Leaf got a better glimpse at him, and more importantly, the pokemon beside him. Quickly flicking through memories of all the pokemon in her pokedex, she came to rest on a possible match to this one. A Lucario, maybe? Yes, the more she thought about it, the more she was sure of it. He was definitely a Lucario. Though Leaf preferred cute pokemon, or at least pokemon she thought were cute, this one still had a certain appeal. There was some sort of item tied around the blue pokemon's right arm, a black sash or something. Perhaps it was an item of some sort? Leaf didn't really have a strong faith in items, unless they could be used to heal or catch a pokemon. She- well, she didn't like to keep things simple; in fact, she liked things as tangled as possible, because she was good at figuring things out that way. But back to the previous subject, most items were overrated.
Leaf watched with a slight inkling of concern her eyes as the boy attempted to stagger in to a standing position, the kind that any passer-by might show. He was cute, but a bit too young for her (of course that was the first thing her mind jumped to; once a flirt, always a flirt) and appeared to be a bit dizzy. The dark-haired girl would have given him a hand up like the good citizen she was (not really) but decided agaisnt it. He didn't look like the type who would want her help, and she wasn't about to waste her energy helping someone who would just shove her away. Instead, she turned to look at his pokemon, eyeing it with a calculating expression. She hadn't seen a Lucario before, so this was a new experience to her. He certainly was a contrast to the extremely protective Arrow, who tended to attack anyone who came close to his trainer. She wasn't planning to have a battlewith the blue pokemon anytime soon, especially with a trainer as balance-challenged as his was, but it would be good to get a scoop on what kind of pokemon he was anyways. She was almost certain her Arrow could take him on. Speaking of Arrow.......Leaf glanced over her shoulder to look at the purple pokemon, just in time to see him in a pre-lunging position, again. Did this pokemon ever learn? Obviously not. He still hadn't defeated his habit of attacking random people near her.
"I'm not in danger, Arrow!" she yelled at him as he swooped. Oh, for the love of- in an instant, Leaf turned towards the big dinosaur and flung her arms out. The purple pokemon screeched to a halt in midair, confusion etched in to his eyes as to why his trained was defending her 'attacker'. Leaf put her arms down and then crooked her finger towards the Aerodactyl, a signal for him to land. 'Oh, how heroic I am,' the girl thought sarcastically with an eye roll before turning back to the boy and the Lucario as Arrow awkwardly landed on the ground beside her, his sharp claws clattering on the paved road.
"He's not going to eat you, honestly," the girl told the pair with an exasperated note in her voice, as if it should be obvious that the huge vicious pokemon wouldn't harm them. Leaf paused as the boy opened his mouth to speak. Well, goodness, wasn't he the clever sarcastic one. Arching a brow in return, Leaf spoke again. "No need to get so defensive, kid," She felt tempted to add a rude comment of her own to his Lucario about jumping to conclusions, but knew that it would be unjustified. Arrow would have attacked them, given the chance. Even now he watched them hungrily, his beady eyes blinking as he towered above them all. Leaf shook her head slightly and scratched his neck. Carnivorous habits were just hard to break, she guessed. Words: 601 Notes: Thank god X3 I love long posts, though, don't get me wrong Pokemon: Aerodactyl (at the moment)

I THINK I MIGHT JUST LOOSE MY MIND. Something about this Pokémon was recognizable even though he was aware to have never really seen it before; the more he looked at it the more it seemed like he should know what Pokémon it was. Of course he only ended up drawing blanks which made a great deal in frustrating him; however none of his frustration seemed to filter through his expression which was a relief. Almost absentmindedly his fingers reached the spot on his cheek that had come into some harsh contact with the ground and he immediately regretted it –the flesh was still tender. He flinched, trying very hard not to stupidly mutter ‘ow’ but at least he now had confirmed the fact that there was no blood, it also confirmed the fact that the girl was being stupid and just talking to fill the void which made his already poor impression of her drop at least some five points. He’d had understood the comment better if there was something else on his face rather than a reddish mark that was typical of people who were either leaning their hands against their face, fell asleep on a flat surface or fell. But, no, she was just being stupid. Oh well, he couldn’t exactly let himself be shocked by the news –stupidity was like a horrible disease.
The suspicion nagged at him again I have seen at least something like it, he thought and let his mind and eyes wander over the Pokemon’s form again. A large head with small eyes and a huge opening for its maw revealing serrated fangs, its oval-shaped body was connected by a thin neck and wings leathery wings stretched from its side the a hand appearing where the bones of the wing conjoined, a stubby bone protruded from the back of its neck making it such its head would always be craned in a forward angle, a thick lengthy tail and short stubby legs finished its structure. The short legs indicated it was a flyer the serrated fangs indicated it was a carnivore (though with that look in its eyes he hardly doubted he would need the fangs to let him know this was a carnivore). But he forced himself to return to the present when he caught a ripple of movement from the Pokémon once more, one moment it was there angrily staring down at the two and the next it seemed to have made up its mind about something because its wings beat furiously for a couple of seconds in which debris flew in opposite directions and then for some reason it was attempting to snap its jaws towards the pair (meaning Andre and Ruby).
As would’ve been expected Andre immediately reacted by snapping back to its tense posture, preparing to attack at any second and Ruby’s mind, already used to and trained to come up with alternatives on a moment’s notice couldn’t help but flicking through all the possible ways to counter the opponents quicker attacks. However, to Ruby’s relief the trainer wasn’t as stupid as to simply stand idly by while her Pokémon decided how best to tear someone’s throat open because she responded quickly, yelling at the purple menace. "I'm not in danger, Arrow!" however Andre obviously was caught by surprise because when she stood in front of the pair and flung her arms wide the Lucario looked as if would much rather is the trainer didn’t put herself in danger (obviously like Ruby himself Andre doubted her capacity to keep the thing under control) and for perhaps a fraction of a second it looked like it was furiously considering to push her aside before the Pokémon screeched to a halt in midair (quite the feat, Ruby thought, considering that with a head as large as its it should’ve probably toppled over in an ungraceful halt rather than the quick sudden one it pulled). Andre breathed a sigh of relief next to Ruby and the trainer found himself trying to bite back a smile. The Lucario had too much of a sense of fairness than it should, personally, although the situation would probably be messy and horrifying, Ruby wouldn’t have minded it himself if the Pokémon tore its trainer to shreds –it would’ve taught her a valuable lesson, in the afterlife that is.
Figuring that it would be better if Andre looked like he wasn’t ready to pounce and destroy at any second, Ruby laid his hand on the Lucario’s shoulder. The Aura Pokémon looked up, its ruby red eyes glinting with the unasked question. The trainer met its companion’s eyes and shook his head twice from side to side, ‘no’ the action spoke, rather clearly and Andre understood. He only hesitated for the fraction of a second before he lowered his forepaws and relaxed his muscles. Like any typical Lucario, Andre still stood on the balls of his feet which still suggested that the Pokémon was able to move at a second’s notice, but that was simply their stance. However the female trainer didn’t seem too keen in letting her opinion quite down because the next second she was talking again: "He's not going to eat you, honestly.”
Well, wasn’t that nice.
“Oh yes, I have no doubt of that,” Ruby began, sarcasm already dripping from his tone of voice “because you obviously have complete control over it, because never has it lounged at us when you told it not to,” here he gave Andre a sideways glance and the Lucario offered him a small half-smile of encouragement “so surely my concerns are uncalled for.” He paused and arched a brow in question towards the eldest trainer as if to say ‘even you must have enough brain-power to realize it would be stupid to think the winged-rat won’t strike just because’ but he made no effort to word the remark, having the sense that it hung silently with the gesture.
"No need to get so defensive, kid,"
This moment called for a dramatic eye-roll.
Andre on the other hand just shook his head once to indicate that he was exasperated with the two (or rather Ruby and the hungry Pokémon since it was doubtful the trainer could exactly avoid being dim-witted) before it suddenly seemed to have an idea. Andre turned his blue and black snout towards Ruby and gestured at his backpack, Ruby had no idea what the Lucario had in mind but he nodded nevertheless and the Lucario stuffed its paws in one of the outside pockets, one that didn’t need a zipper, and drew out –ah, his Pokedex! He had almost forgotten the thing existed and of course it would stop him from referring the purple beast as such. He flashed a smile at the Lucario “Thanks, Andre”. Then he only had to flick the Pokedex open and pointed in the general direction of the purple Pokémon then read the text… an Aerodactyl, rumored to be extinct. Well, no wonder it was vicious, it probably didn’t appreciate being one of the last left alive either. Well, wasn’t that lovely.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, obviously, this boy didn't want any help, that much was clear from his words and his stance. Well, that would be his tough break. Leaf would go for any form of entertainment, and at the moment, this boy was it, albeit a rude one. The things she would do to escape boredom, honestly. The girl gave herself a moment to shake her head at her folly before turning her attention back to the boy whom she had deemed would be her source of distraction for the next while. She could only hope that a new diversion would come along soon, and attempt to make the waiting bearable by consorting with this obscene boy. It was a good thing that it took a lot to make her mad. For some reason, the dark-haired girl had a feeling that this person was good at pissing people off. Call it a hunch.
Noticing him looking at her Aerodactyl, she took the oportunity to look at his Lucario again. It looked ready to move at the first sign of danger to his trainer and partner. Leaf frowned a little. Babies. To be scared of Arrow, who was virtually harmless! Most of the time. Excepting that moment in time when he had attacked that person. Or when he had attempted to savage that poor pokemon. Okay, so maybe the Aerodactyl wasn't that safe to be around, but still! It didn't mean they had to jump to conclusions! In her head, however, Leaf knew that the Lucario was completely right to have tensed like that. She was just in denial. The girl herself didn't fear the pokemon at all, because she had spent time with him and gotten to know him, and also because the stupid part of her brain refused to acknowledge fear and defeat. Stupid, idiotic, simple brain.
She watched as he put a hand on the Lucario's shoulder and shook his head. Well, at least he was good with his pokemon, if not with people. They appeared to have a connection, that pokemon and his trainer. Leaf, of all people, could respect that. Her entire basis for her training of pokemon was based on her and the pokemon's connection. If they couldn't connect, then they couldn't work together, and if they couldn't work together, then they couldn't battle together, and if they couldn't battle together.......the picture was clear in anycase, so she could stop rambling now.
Eh, what? So now she couldn't control her pokemon? Bull. She had half a mind to tell him that, but as usual, kept her head. She was suprisingly good at that in difficult situations."Actually," Leaf replied, her voice level and reasonable. "He's just extremely confused. You would be too, if you were him," 'Thank Arceus you're not,' she added silently, before raising her hand again to give the large pokemon yet another pat. He in return lowered his head to grant her better access, all the while staring at the person and the Lucario. Back in his day, the Aerodactyl mused silently, they had had proper, simple pokemon. What the hell had happened to that old world?
Leaf continued, oblivious to her Arrow's suddenly thoughtful look. "I doubt your pokemon listen to you when they're confused, if they listen to you at all, that is," she finished off her sentence with a bright smile, as if she had been talking about the weather instead of incriminating his abilities with pokemon. She wasn't trying to be rude (like he was) but he had asked for it. The dark-haired girl's smile grew wider as her own pokemon gently butted her with his head. <Don't scold the funny things,> he growled out, not having a better word to describe Lucario and his trainer. <I'd eat them given the chance, if you weren't around.> Of course, all this was lost on Leaf, who of course didn't speak pokemon. To the people, it just sounded like the large pokemon was hissing out a threat.
Suddenly, Leaf blinked. Was that.....a Pokedex that the boy had just taken out? Hm. Didn't see too many trainers with those these days. Well, two could play at that game. Rummaging through her bag, muttering under her breath, the girl searched for her own Pokedex. No, those were pokeballs, those were potions....ah! There it was! Grabbing on to it, Leaf lifted it out of the bag and turned it towards the Lucario. Woah. This guy could sense auras and.....mimic human speech? What? Eh. Stranger things had happened, and still could. Words:753 Notes: I feel so mediocre in comparison T_T Pokemon: Aerodactyl
YOU'VE GOT THIS HEAD FILLED UP WITH SMOKE. Andre’s eyes were now wandering the city since it didn’t feel like it should be watching the Aerodactyl’s every move –though of course it always made sure to at least be able to glance at the other Pokémon in his peripheral vision it at least seemed to go back to enjoying the scenery. Of course after a while the Pokémon would probably grow bored but for now he only remembered his trainer telling him that this was the city where he was born and that was enough to let the Lucario’s attention stray if only momentarily. It preferred grassy fields or rocky mountains itself but since it never had been in this city it expressed the right amount of curiosity any newcomer would express. Ruby, noticing how the Lucario looked curiously around had to hold back a half-smile, as the youngest in his team there were still some things that Andre hadn’t seen that the rest of his team had seen many times over, however other than noting it he made no response to alleviate the Aura Pokémon’s curiosity. Maybe if the other trainer hadn’t been there he’d talk more to the sharp Lucario.
His attention had to be forced back to the trainer’s when he caught her opening her mouth again and Andre snapped to attention as well, though his eyes wandered around the street behind the female trainer. "Actually," she started, Ruby already wearing a skeptic expression in his face, to his experience rarely an agreeable statement followed the word “actually” in fact to his great knowledge only statements that were going to contradict your own started with that word "He's just extremely confused. You would be too, if you were him," see? He was right, she was already contradicting him. But of course he already had a response prepared and ready to meet the other’s ears.
“So you admit then that he’s a dumbass?” he inquired waving his hand in a gesture to indicate the Aerodactyl behind her, sounding as skeptical but the effect may was almost negated by the sneering smile that played at the corner of his lips. Sure he wasn’t giving the poor Aerodactyl –Arrow he reminded himself, trying to at least keep the name in check– much credit, but it was its trainer that got it stuck in the questionable smarts department –not that he thought this was a very brilliant Pokémon standing before him, but he hadn’t called it stupid –oh wait, not stupid, confused, well the way he saw it if you got confused in the first place you were either slow, mentally retarded or with the IQ of the dirt that gets stuck against your fingernails. The three seemed rather likely with the Aerodactyl and he was sure that all its thoughts either revolved around food (indirectly or not) or kidnapping princesses and taking them away into a castle (he was being sarcastic here, of course). At least, he figured, he thought all his team had a descent amount of brains on their heads and although some were hot-tempered they could at least know the difference between dangerous and none-dangerous… unlike the purple flying rat here.
Then she offered a sweet smile "I doubt your pokemon listen to you when they're confused, if they listen to you at all, that is," she added brightly. One side of his lips lifted up in a smile and Andre shot his trainer a skeptical look, well, he gathered, at least our thoughts are going around the same line.
“Oh yes,” he said smoothly “because going for a walk is such a taxing situation to be in, you’re right, of course, so very confusing,” he paused and met the Lucario’s red eyes flashing a smile in his direction “I bet you’re extremely confused with the concept of walking, aren’t you?” the Lucario responded just on cue he pulled off a clueless expression and looked around as if too say it had no idea what ‘walking’ was then turned back to Ruby and shrugged, shaking his head slowly from side to side then offering his trainer a tentative smile which Ruby returned. Well, the trainer obviously wasn’t the brightest Volbeat in the sky, she had just suggested that her Pokémon was both a dumbass and not able to understand basic tasks… which probably also fell under the dumbass category. At least she had cleared her name from being a bad trainer, no it wasn’t her fault it was the Pokémon’s fault, this type of people actually made him throw up in his mouth a little, just as long as their name was cleared the reputation the Pokémon have didn’t matter –not that he ever thought the Aerodactyl was something other than a clueless dolt but at least it he hadn’t throw the poor thing’s name to the dust.
Something that could be thought of as consideration was the only thing that made him hold still as the other trainer ruffled through her backpack for her Pokedex and flashed it at Andre, after all her Aerodactyl had held still while he did the same. However as soon as she seemed about done Andre turned to him with an eager expression on his face so of course the trainer set all other thoughts aside and listened. “You haven’t finished showing me the city,” there was a tone of accusation in the Lucario’s telepathic speech something that surprised Ruby –he knew Andre was curious but not this eager to have a walk around the city. He smiled at the Lucario “Alright,” he agreed and without so much as a glance at the other trainer he turned to walk and comply with Andre’s wishes. He didn’t even care if the trainer followed or not but he was obviously going to listen to Andre rather than whatever the girl wanted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Leaf loved her Arrow, really, she did. But sometimes......she couldn't help but become exasperated with him. You'd think one would get over their culturshock relatively quickly after seeing all of the advances humankind had made and how they had moved forward so beneficially. However, the purple pokemon remained in a stubborn state of confusion, intentionally or unintentionally. She supposed she couldn't blame him, but sometimes, it just got a little old. Predator habits were out. Now pokemon had other alternatives, though there still were plenty of carnivorous predators out there. Arrow, however, preyed on pretty much anything he could get his sharp claws on, and still didn't quite understand that everyday, normal people weren't meant for food. Even now, he was still gazing at the boy and his Lucario hungrily. Leaf wouldn't mind it that much if he did eat them, but then again, the Aerodactyl would probably get a horribly stomachache later from the boy. Not the Lucario, though, he looked healthy and well-nourished. It was a demented compliment, in a way.
Then again, she was probably underestimating the boy's nasty taste. If Arrow did end up eating him, he'd probably end up upchucking for the next few days, if not months, thanks to the boy's vileness. Even now he was giving Leaf the hairy eye, one that indicated contempt. He was probably doubting her pokemon-raising abilities in his head, and not the possible answers he could give her. Generally, when Leaf retorted to most boys, they just rolled over. This one, however, looked like he never went in to a room, let alone outside, without a bunch of sarcastic replies ready. From what he had said to her earlier, Leaf had a fair bit of proof that she was correct on this matter. Ah well. She liked smart boys and the challenges they possessed. This was going to be fun.
So now Arrow was a dumbass, hm? Strange. Leaf didn't recall mentioning that lie about her pokemon. All she recalled talking about was confusion, and last she checked, that had no relation to the word 'dumbass' or even indicated a person's (or a pokemon's) stupidity. She should really start lugging around a dictionary in her bag, just so she could look these things up and read them to annoying people, like the boy right here! But alas, there were no bookstores nearby, so she couldn't rush in and the come back out with the book to show him. With his manners, though, she doubted that he'd wait for her, probably run away at the first sign of her departure, however brief it was going to be.
Leaf widened her long-lashed eyes for more effect as she began to talk in a sympathetic tone. "You mean he doesn't know how to walk? Well, I suppose it isn't a surprise, with you as a trainer. It's a good thing that you didn't teach him other basics, like how to breathe. You'd probably screw that up too," she finished up with a wince of false empathy. He had his insults, she had hers. Even though Leaf was generally a sweet-tempered girl, there were some times when a girl had to bite back. At least she had the mettle for it. Mentally, Leaf grinned as a sudden memory surfaced in her head; it was a memory of when she had first set out to become a trainer. She hadn't had that much money, and had been forced to resort to less than....honest measures to get by. She hadn't balked at that, had she?
Even though she was smiling on the inside, Leaf's face was an amazingly convincing mask of seriousness on the outside. It didn't even break when the boy turned around and started to walk away. Without even a goodbye, really! His manners were atrocious. "Bye," Leaf said in a quiet voice, so as the boy wouldn't hear, before turning back to her Aerodactyl, her face suddenly morphing in to an unholy grin as she looked up at the dinosaur. "Just kidding, let's stalk them," she told the pokemon, before carefully climbing up to the spot on his neck where she sat when she occasionally flew. Why occasionally? Because Leaf didn't like flying. At all. If Arrow had been a bird pokemon and not a dinosaur then she would never have even considered getting up on his back. But she trusted him, for some warped reason. And this was the best way to serve her current purpose. 'You may have won this fight (kind of), but you have NOT won the war,' the girl thought in her head.
The Arrow knew Leaf well enough by now to know what she wanted him to do. Silently, he rose up in to the air with a few powerful beats of his wings and glided over the boy and his pokemon, a giant shadow over the partners. Leaf looked over the pokemon's shoulder to gaze down at the boy, her features hurt. "You didn't even say goodbye," she said sorrowfully, loud enough for him to hear her. I JUST WANT TO BREAK YOU DOWN SO BADLY. The Lucario’s red eyes narrowed when he sensed the shifting of the two auras –the girl’s and the Aerodactyl’s but he refrained from telling his trainer merely because he had no idea what they were up to just yet –he was simply aware that she drew closer to her Pokémon then simply decided to ignore them. His attention fixed on Ruby who looked merely thoughtful, probably deciding if there was anything he wanted to show the Pokémon in this city but truth be told the only thing he could really recall where his favorite haunts. The stores he visited, the supermarket his family brought food on the Department Store, a particularly dark alleyway where he would drag his friends into and they would sit around and laugh, or at least this is what he told his partner. Of course Andre was extremely put out by the fact that Ruby seemed more interested in just watching the familiar and unfamiliar buildings and noting which parts of the city changed drastically and which ones stayed exactly the same and although he did enjoy simply walking around with his trainer the Aura Pokémon strongly wished that Ruby would show him something interesting, something that would make his mouth fall open and his eyes pop –but his trainer’s hometown was just the same as any other big city. The Hoenn trainer already pointed out the Radio Tower, the Game Corner, the Gym and even a tiny park that lay sprawled inside the city where he caught a whiff of a couple of trainers but Ruby didn’t seem interested in battling.
Nothing he could do about that, thought the Lucario grimly.
Another tight shift in the auras behind him made the Lucario pause in his walking and as soon as Ruby noticed he stopped too –a question in his eyes. “We’re being followed…” he sounded confused –as if he didn’t know what to make of it.
- - -
For a minute Ruby didn’t know what to make of that, didn’t even know who ‘we’ was so he just simply stared at the Pokémon as if he’d suddenly sprouted wings and declared he was the trainer’s fairy god mother. Andre simply shook his head in mock horror and that’s when something suddenly blocked off the bright sunlight making the pair look up. "You didn't even say goodbye," called out the brunette girl from the back of the Aerodactyl –the latter flapped its leathery wings vigorously to keep airborne in a place were there were no strong wing currents to facilitate its work for it. Ruby shook his head slowly –a smile quirked his lips and he even thought he heard Andre chuckle next to him. Well, point for stubbornness, he thought not completely sure what he was expected to do about the whole situation. He dropped his gaze to the dog-like Pokémon which had suddenly acquired a thoughtful expression as if thinking up of some elaborate plan and Ruby remained quiet and he filtered through his thoughts only meeting his trainer’s gaze when a spark of mischief lit his eyes.
Oh, boy, Ruby could only think as the Lucario thrust his forepaws to grasp Ruby’s hand an excited smile playing at the Aura Pokémon’s lips. “Keep up!” he telepathically called out towards the trainer aboard the Aerodactyl turning that same mischievous look towards Ruby and yanking at his arm in the universal gesture of ‘hurry!’ before dragging his trainer along with him in a full-pelt run. Ruby could only briefly think of how this was an extremely bad idea considering the dumbass Arrow may think they’re prey running for their dear lives and try to pluck them from the ground, but couldn’t exactly fight against the Lucario’s superior strength now could he? So to a run he was dragged only barely keeping up because Andre never loosened his hold on him. Their feet slapped against the cement and before long Ruby was getting accustomed to the rhythm of this particular jog and was soon keeping up with the Lucario who was ducking and dodging civilians with an ease derived out of his extra abilities and never once did the Pokémon need to slow down his speed.
Ruby however couldn’t sense auras and if it wasn’t because of Andre’s quick mental directions he would have either smacked against the woman carrying a baby or tripped over his own two feet and face-planted for the second time this day. They cleared the busy sidewalks relatively quickly (Andre still holding Ruby’s wrist in vice-like grip that would have caused a Machamp envy) and only an empty alleyway was exposed in front of them now. “Race ya!” declared Andre cheerfully barely slowing down or even attempting to explain where they were headed. Ruby complied, nonetheless, running just at Andre’s heels through the alleyway and only coming to a screeching halt when they burst into familiar scenery –none of which Ruby could quite see because it so happened that the run knocked the rest of his balance out of him. This time however he didn’t plummet to the ground because this time Andre was expecting it and quickly griped the back of his trainer’s shirt and forcefully yanked him to a stand.
Blearily Ruby blinked at the scene before him –wooden benches, potted flowers, green trees, a soft breeze and cobblestones. It was one of the tiny parks that lay sprawled at random intervals across the city –he caught sight of a girl with an Aipom clinging from her arm, another was trotting with a Growlithe to his side and he even saw a Pidgey perched on one of the branches of the short trees. He slowly shook his head and turned to try to meet Andre’s eyes but the Lucario was looking at the scene before him with a hint of approval. “What do you have in mind, again?” he asked, gesturing towards the trees, cluster of people and the joggers, but Andre simply shook his head and turned his eyes to the sky looking for the brunette trainer with her killer flying reptile to see if they had done as he instructed and kept up with the running pair.
